Program by John MacLean Dynamic Portrait Lighting Demo
The basis of all photography begins with light. This month I’m going to briefly start off revisiting a bit of lighting theory I demonstrated last year. Then I’ll show some lighting setups for different subjects with various lighting modifiers for simple, effective and professional results. I use Profoto B1 off camera flash (OCF) lights for their durability, but the methods are the same and can be applied to your own workflow even with speedlights. We’ll start with covering basic 1 light setups through to a 3 light setup. If all goes well with the weather, we’ll also go outside and I’ll show how to incorporate one light with High Speed Sync (HSS) to add drama without using harsh reflectors that make your subjects squint uncomfortably.
I’ll have a couple of wireless remote flash triggers for you to use on your own camera’s hot shoe so you can all connect up and shoot too, so bring your cameras. Hopefully, a couple of members will be keen on sitting in for the session. Profoto will be sending some swag for the attendees, and we’ll have our door prize drawing for a Sandisk Extreme 16 GB SD card, so be sure to be there!
We’re going to forego the Show and Tell this month due to the hands-on workshop atmosphere. They’ll be plenty to do!
The suggested donation for visitors is $5. This amount is applied to the $20 yearly membership, which becomes active from the date paid in full. So please join us on Saturday, August 11 from 2 PM – 4 PM at the Cullowhee United Methodist Church. Hope to see you there.
Thank you for coming out to Ryan Karcher‘s exceptional drone presentation and live demo. The general consensus was that it was outstanding. I concur!
